1. Information We Collect

When you use GiftLynx on the web or in the mobile app, we collect:

  • Account information: your name, email address and password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider).
  • Profile information you choose to add: bio, birthday, gender and interests.
  • Gift information you enter: the people you buy gifts for (“giftees”) and what you note about them, such as their name, relationship, age or birthday, gender, interests and notes, plus your gift ideas, saved products, wish lists and wish list items.
  • Connections: the people you connect with, connection requests and invitations you send (including the email addresses you invite).
  • Usage information: which features you use and which products you click, so we can improve GiftLynx and track affiliate referrals.
  • Device information: if you allow notifications in the app, a push notification token, your device name and platform.
  • Contact form messages: your name, email address and message, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address used only to prevent spam.

We do not collect payment information. Purchases happen on the retailers' own websites.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Provide GiftLynx: your giftees, gift ideas, wish lists and connections
  • Let connected friends and family see the wish lists you share with them and coordinate gifts
  • Generate personalized gift suggestions with Lynx Picks, if you allow it (see AI Features below)
  • Find products and prices from retailers
  • Send account emails (confirmation, password reset) and the invitations you ask us to send
  • Send push notifications about connection requests and price drops, if you turn them on
  • Keep GiftLynx secure and prevent abuse, such as spam through the contact form

3. AI Features (Lynx Picks)

Lynx Picks uses third-party AI services to suggest gifts. Before your first request, we ask your permission. If you allow it, each time you ask Lynx for ideas we send the details needed to suggest gifts:

  • about the giftee: the relationship, age, gender, interests and notes you entered (not their name);
  • if the giftee is a connected GiftLynx user: the interests and age from their own profile;
  • your choices for this request: occasion, gift style, budget and keywords;
  • your past thumbs-up / thumbs-down feedback on Lynx suggestions, to personalize results.

These details go to Perplexity and, as a backup, Google (Gemini), to generate your suggestions. We don't send the giftee's name, your email address or your account details. Each provider handles this data under its own terms: Perplexity privacy policy, Google privacy policy. Product names from suggestions are also sent to our product and image search providers to find products and pictures; these searches don't include personal information.

You can turn Lynx's AI permission off at any time in your Profile (“Lynx AI suggestions”). If you do, nothing more is sent, and Lynx will ask again before your next request. AI suggestions can be inaccurate; check details and prices with the retailer.

If you connect with someone who uses Lynx, the interests and age from your profile may be used when they ask Lynx for gift ideas for you.

4. Who We Share Information With

We do not sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We share it only with the services that run GiftLynx, and only what each one needs:

  • Database and sign-in provider (US-based servers)
  • Hosting provider for the website and the app's server
  • Email delivery service for account emails and invitations
  • Push notification service that delivers notifications to the app
  • AI providers, Perplexity and Google (Gemini), for Lynx Picks suggestions, only with your permission (see section 3)
  • Product and image search providers (product names only)
  • Retailers and affiliate programs, such as Amazon Associates, when you click a product link (see section 6)

Other GiftLynx users: people you connect with can see your name, the wish lists you share with them and the profile details you add. Wish lists you share by link can be seen by anyone with the link. You control each wish list's visibility. Your connections can see your email address; other users see it only if they search for that exact address.

We may disclose information if required by law.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored with our database provider on US-based servers and protected with encrypted connections (HTTPS) and per-user access rules in the database, so people can only see what they're allowed to.

6. Cookies and Affiliate Links

GiftLynx uses cookies to keep you signed in. Some product links are affiliate links: when you click one, the retailer or affiliate network may set cookies to credit GiftLynx with a commission if you buy something, at no extra cost to you. See our affiliate disclosure. You can block third-party cookies in your browser settings.

7. Keeping and Deleting Your Data

We keep your data while you have an account. You can delete your account at any time, in the app or on the website; this immediately and permanently deletes your account and everything in it (see how to delete your account). Contact form messages are kept so we can answer them and prevent spam.

8. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data (most of it you can edit yourself)
  • Delete your account and data yourself, in the app or on the website
  • Withdraw permission for Lynx's AI features at any time in your Profile
  • Export your data
  • Opt out of non-essential communications

9. Children's Privacy

GiftLynx is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting a notice in the app or sending an email. Your continued use of GiftLynx after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
